The god of love
Should one day see
The many ways
I pleasure thee.
For if indeed
Such god there be,
He’d learn a thing
Or two from me.
Old Glory still is flying proud
Proclaiming still the message loud:
The Lord has smiled upon this land
From Yorktown to Afghanistan.
Incompetence? Deceit? Demise?
Do you believe these Fake News lies?
America’s now safe from flak
Since Donald Trump has got its back.

UNTITLED (by Gerry Hamill)
‘If you’re aristocratic,’ said Nietzsche,
‘It’s thumbs up, you’re OK. Pleased to mietzsche.
If you’re working class bores,
It’s thumbs down and up yours!
If you don’t know your place, then I’ll tietzsche.’
from SUMMER WITH MONIKA (by Roger McGough)
away from you
i feel a great emptiness
a gnawing loneliness
i get that reassuring feeling
of wanting to escape
THEIR SEX LIFE (by A. R. Ammons 1926-2001)
TO SOMEONE WHO INSISTED I LOOK UP SOMEONE (by X.J. Kennedy 1929- )
I rang them up while touring Timbuctoo,
Those bosom chums to whom you’re known as ‘Who? ‘

A post-structuralist lay dying
(Son membre à la main),
Which he said, “I’ll die a happy death
Because I understand.
I understand how things are shown
(For instance, mis en scène),
Which I deconstruct constructions there
Constructed on the screen.
I‘ve toured and taught and lectured
(They all say I’m quite a talker),
Which I’ve dealt with everything
From Avatar to Riddley Walker*.
But invite no ackers** to my wake
(They always criticize me),
Which my corpse should lie face downwards
So my friends will recognize me”.
